Behavior Preserving Extension of Univariate and Bivariate Functions

چکیده
Given function values on a domain D0 , possibly with noise, we examine the possibility of extending the function to a larger domain D,D0 ⊂ D. In addition to smoothness at the boundary of D0 , the extension to D \ D0 should also inherit behavioral trends of the function on D0 , such as growth and decay or even oscillations. The approach chosen here is based upon the framework of linear models, univariate, or bivariate, with constant coefficients or varying coefficients.

A Bivariate Gamma-type Probability Function Using a Confluent Hypergeometric Function of Two Variables
Al-Saqabi et al. [4] defined a univariate gamma-type function involving the confluent hypergeometirc function of two variables and discussed some associated statistical functions. We define a bivariate extension of their gamma-type function using another form of a confluent hypergeometric function of two variables and discuss some of its statistical functions.

Alternative specifications of univariate asymmetric Laplace models are described and investigated. A more general mixture model is then introduced. Bivariate extensions of these models are discussed in some detail, with particular emphasis on associated parameter estimation strategies. Multivariate versions of the models are briefly introduced.
متن کاملBivariate interpolation based on univariate subdivision schemes
The paper presents a bivariate subdivision scheme interpolating data consisting of univariate functions along equidistant parallel lines by repeated refinements. This method can be applied to the construction of a surface passing through a given set of parametric curves. Following the methodology of polysplines and tension surfaces, we define a local interpolator of four consecutive univariate ...
متن کاملShape preserving histogram approximation
We present a new method for reconstructing the density function underlying a given histogram. First we analyze the univariate case taking the approximating function in a class of quadratic-like splines with variable degrees. For the analogous bivariate problem we introduce a new scheme based on the Boolean sum of univariate B-splines and show that for a proper choice of the degrees, the splines...
متن کاملStress-Strength and Ageing Intensity Analysis via a New Bivariate Negative Gompertz-Makeham Model
In Demography and modelling mortality (or failure) data the univariate Makeham-Gompertz is well-known for its extension of exponential distribution. Here, a bivariate class of Gompertz--Makeham distribution is constructed based on random number of extremal events. Some reliability properties such as ageing intensity, stress-strength based on competing risks are given. Also dependence properties...
